There are three playable factions in Iron Harvest, each with over a dozen individual units and three playable heroes. Each hero character offers additional options in combat and reconnaissance. The story is told from the perspective of the three different factions.

Scythe
In the boardgame Scythe there are additional factions. There is currently no word whether these factions will make it into the game via updates or DLCs, but they are:
- Clan Albion
- Crimean Khanate
- Nordic Kingdoms
- Togawa Shogunate
